Athlete's Foot

I have suffered from athlete's foot for a long time. My husband had no idea when he married me, and it came as a huge shock to him when he found out during our marriage.

 

One day, my husband got angry with me. He'd never had athlete's foot before, and he said that he must have gotten it from me. When I saw his feet, it looked like a different type of athlete's foot. I tried to explain to him that there are various types of athlete's foot. Our strains were different, so I couldn't have passed it on to him. 

 

Even so, I felt sorry for my husband, and I bought some athlete's foot ointment from the pharmacy for him. That's how we developed a shared routine of applying our respective athlete's foot creams every morning and evening.

Pattern Practice 

 

1. it comes as a huge shock : 큰 충격이다

 

It came as a huge shock to him when he found out.

그 사실을 알고 그는 매우 큰 충격을 받았다.

 

We weren't expecting it, so it came as a huge shock.

우리는 예상하지 못하고 있어서 큰 충격을 받았다. 

 

It came as a huge shock to me when she said that. 

그녀가 그 말을 하자 나는 큰 충격을 받았다.

 

2. pass it on to : ~에게 옮기다

 

I coudn't have passed it on to him.

내가 그에게 옮겼을 리가 없었다.

 

I wear a mask because I don't want to pass it on to anyone else.

다른 사람들에게 옮기기 싫어서 나는 마스크를 쓴다.

 

My son caught a cold and passed it on to me.

아들이 감기에 걸리고 내게 옮겼다.

 

3. feel sorry for : ~에게 미안하다, ~가 안쓰럽다

 

Even so, I felt sorry for my husband. 

그래도 나는 남편이 안쓰러운 마음이 들었다.

 

I feel sorry for people who have never experienced it. 

한 번도 경험해 보지 못한 사람들이 안쓰럽게 느껴진다. 

 

I feel sorry for her, even though it's her own fault. 

그녀의 잘못이지만, 그래도 나는 그녀가 안쓰럽다.

Dialogue Practice 

A : Look at my feet. I've got athlete's foot. I must have gotten it from you.

 

B : No, our symptoms are different. 

 

A : I've never had athlete's foot in my life. It definitely came from you.

 

B : Let me go to the pharmacy and get some ointment. 

 

A : It's so irritating when the itching flares up. 

 

B : If it gets any worse, you should have it looked at.
