4D Theaters

I recently watched a movie in a 4D theater for the first time. Although 4D theaters have been around for quite some time, I hadn't ever been to one. They seemed too expensive, and I thought that they would feel like being on an amusement park ride. But that day, I decided to give it a try.

I liked that the seats were larger and set further apart than in regular theaters. It was a novel experience, and I had a better time than I was expecting. The seats moved in all directions depending on what was going on in the movie. Wind blew in my face, as well as water droplets. There were also lighting effects and various smells.

​

I felt a little dizzy at first, as if I had motion sickness. But I soon got used to it. I was able to immerse myself in the movie because it felt like I was moving along with the characters. Next time, I plan to bring the kids along to experience it together.

2.  have motion sickiness : 멀미가 나다 

 

I felt a little dizzy at first, as if I had motion sickness.

초반에는 멀미가 나는 것처럼 머리가 조금 어지러운 느낌이 있었습니다.

 

I stopped the car because my daughter had motion sickness.

딸아이가 멀미를 해서 나는 차를 세웠다.

 

I always have motion sickness when I travel in a bus.

​나는 버스로 이동할 때마다 멀미가 난다.

 

3. immerse oneself in : ~에 몰입하다 

 

I was able to immerse myself in the movie.

저는 영화에 몰입할 수 있었습니다.

 

On weekends, I like to immerse myself in a book or movie.

주말에는 책이나 영화에 몰입하는 것을 즐긴다.

 

I prefer going alone, to immerse myself in the experience.

​나는 경험에 온전히 몰입하기 위해 혼자 가는 것을 선호한다.

Dialogue Practice

A : Do you go to the movies often?

 

B : Not as often as before. I mostly stream them at home these days.

 

A : I went to the theater with my kids and watched an animated film in 4D. They loved it.

 

B : Oh, really?

 

A : Yes, it felt like we were on an amusement park ride throughout the entire movie.

 

B : That sounds fun. I should take the kids sometime, too.
