Aerial Yoga
As the years go by, I feel that I am getting out of shape. To improve my physical fitness, l've tried various exercises like working out at the gym and swimming. But it wasn't easy to stick to one thing consistently. Then, three years ago, I happened to come across aerial yoga.
Aerial yoga involves performing various yoga poses while suspended from a ceiling-mounted hammock. Since you have to maintain your posture while hanging in mid-air, it helps strengthen your ab muscles and arms. Hanging upside down aids the entire body's blood circulation. Wrapping the hammock around your thighs or armpits can stimulate the lymphatic system, which also has health benefits.
At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to keep at it for long because it was so painful. But as time passed, I began to feel the refreshing sensation of my muscles loosening up. I want to continue practicing aerial yoga to maintain my health.
Pattern Practice
1. get out of shape : 체력이 약해지다
As the years go by, I feel that I am getting out of shape.
해가 갈수록 저는 체력이 약해지는 것을 느낍니다.
I really got out of shape last year.
나는 작년에 체력이 정말 약해졌다.
It's not uncommon for people to get out of shape as they get older.
사람들이 나이가 들면서 체력이 약해지는 것은 흔한 일이다.
2. work out at the gym : 헬스장에서 운동하다.
I've tried various exercises like working out at the gym and swimming.
헬스나 수영 같은 여러 가지 운동을 해 봤습니다.
I try to work out at the gym after work.
나는 퇴근 후에 헬스장에서 운동하려고 노력한다.
I usually listen to music when I work out at the gym.
나는 평소 헬스장에서 운동할 때 음악을 듣는다.
3. maintain one's posture : 자세를 유지하다
You have to maintain your posture while hanging in mid-air.
공중에 매달린 채 자세를 유지해야 합니다.
It was surprisingly difficult to maintain my posture.
자세를 유지하기가 의외로 힘들었다.
It's hard to maintain your posture when your back hurts.
허리가 아프면 자세를 유지하기가 힘들다.
Dialogue Practice
A : They say that muscle strength declines as you age.
B : That's right. I feel it happening to me, too.
A : A lot of people I know beat the drum for yoga.
B : Yes, my friend has been doing aerial yoga for a few years now, and she speaks highly of it.
A : Aerial yoga?
B : Yes, it's yoga done while hanging in mid-air using a hammock.
