Cutting My Husband's Hair 

​

My husband doesn't like going to get his hair done. The attention he gets from the hairdresser makes him feel uncomfortable. One day, he made a suggestion: "Even if my hair turns out a mess, I want you to cut it for me." I refused many times, but eventually caved.

​

I bought a hair clipper and cut my husband's hair. I was a bundle of nerves the first time I cut his hair. I was worried that he would go out with a bad haircut because of me.

​

The results of my first attempt weren't great. My husband said it was fine, trying to put me at ease, but I wasn't satisfied. After some trial and error, I was able to find a style that suits him. I'm glad that my modest skills could be of help to my husband.

 

Pattern Practice

1. make someone feel uncomfortable : 부담을 주다, 불편하게 하다 

 

The attention he gets from the hairdresser makes him feel uncomfortable.

그는 미용사에게 받는 관심이 부담스럽다고 느낍니다.

 

Speaking in front of so many people made me feel uncomfortable.

She talks so much that it makes me feel uncomfortable.

2. a bundle of nerves : 매우 긴장한 [불안한] 사람 

 

I was a bundle of nerves the first time I cut his hair.

처음 그의 머리를 깎을 때 저는 많이 긴장되었습니다.

 

I was a bundle of nerves before the exam.

나는 시험을 보기 전에 매우 긴장됐다.

 

I don't know why, but he's a bundle of nerves today.

이유는 모르겠지만 그는 오늘 아주 불안한 상태다.

3. a style that suits someone : ~에게 어울리는 스타일 

 

I was able to find a style that suits him.

저는 그에게 어울리는 스타일을 찾을 수 있었습니다.

 

I hadn't found a style that suited me yet.

나는 내게 어울리는 스타일을 아직 찾지 못했었다.

 

That's not a style that suits you.

​그건 너한테 어울리는 스타일이 아니야.

Dialogue Practice

B : Yes, it is.

 

A : Do you give your family haircuts at home by yourself?

 

B : Yes, my kids cried whenever we went to get their hair done, so l've been doing it myself.

 

A : You're very good with your hands.

 

B : It turned out a mess at first, but I can make them look pretty good now.
