College Music Club Activities  

 

Back when I was in college, I was a vocalist in a music club called "Commence," a creative original song club. Our club was founded in 1984 and has been active ever since, producing numerous great songs, professional composers, singers, and musicians.

I loved singing, so I went in for auditions twice to become a member of the club. We held three performances a year and practiced almost every day.

We paid special attention to harmonizing, listening to each other's voices and focusing on really nailing our harmonies.

We sang some well-known hits during performances, but also showcased original compositions by our talented club members. Thanks to my five years in the club, I was able to immerse myself in music and hone my skills as a singer.

My son has immersed himself in chess lately.

​아들이 최근 체스에 흠뻑 빠졌다.

 

3.  hone one's skills : 실력을 연마하다 

 

I was able to hone my skills as a singer.

저는 노래 실력을 연마할 수 있었습니다.

 

You have to practice to hone your skills.

실력을 연마하려면 반드시 연습을 해야 한다.

 

I didn't have enough time to hone my skills.

​ 나는 실력을 연마할 시간이 부족했다.

Dialogue Practice

A : What club activities were you involved in during college?

 

B : I was really into music, so I signed up for a music club.

 

A : Wow, that's amazing! Did you perform, too?

 

B : Of course! I was busy with my studies, but I worked really hard to prepare for our shows.

 

A : No wonder you could hit the high notes when we went to a noraebang.

 

B : Thanks. I hope to take the stage again for a performance someday.
