Gold Medalist Pro Gamers

For the generation in their 20s and 30s, e-sports are just as popular as traditional sports. Reflecting this popularity, e-sports were included as an official event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The most popular game is "League of Legends (LoL)," an online game where teams of five players compete against each other in a virtual space.

The Asian Games featured participants from 15 countries. Korea performed flawlessly, not losing a single set from the preliminaries to the finals. In the finals, they took down their rival, China, to win the gold medal.

I want to applaud our national team, who gave their best despite the short preparation period and ultimately topped the podium.

Pattern Practice

1. the generation in their 20s and 30s :  2030 세대

For the generation in their 20s and 30s, e-sports are just as popular as traditional sports.

Companies now are trying to attract the generation in their 20s and 30s.

The generation in their 20s and 30s have different values compared to their parents.

2. compete against each other : 서로 승부를 겨루다

Teams of five players compete against each other in a virtual space.

It's sad that friends have to compete against each other.

We often compete against each other, but we're still friends.

3. give one's best :

I want to applaud our national team, who gave their best.

I gave my best, but I failed in the end.

You have no right to complain unless you gave your best.

Dialogue Practice

A : E-sports are growing by the day.

B : Sure. After all, the gaming industry makes strides every year.

A : They've even been included as an official event at competitions like the Asian Games.

B : That's right.

A : Korea's gamers are so good at what they do that it's always exciting to watch their matches.

B : It can be just as thrilling as a traditional sports match.
